Parish Catechesis

We offer catechesis in a number of ways. There are
programmes of preparation for Baptism, 1st Communion and Confirmation. In
line with most parishes in this diocese, we normally offer Baptism to
infants, first Communion to children in the year in which they are 8 and
Confirmation to young people in the year they are 14. The Rite if Christian
Initiation for Adults
(RCIA) enables people drawn to the Catholic faith later
in life to follow a spiritual journey culminating in their receiving the
Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion at Easter.
We offer special support for the travellers' children and
for children at non-Catholic schools, we have our 'Walk with Me' programme
on Sundays during the academic year when 6 to 14 year olds follow a course
matching the one at Catholic schools. This allows young people too old for
the parish programmes to follow a 'junior RCIA' leading to Baptism and 1st
Communion when they are ready.
Parents of children in 'Walk with Me' or receiving the
sacraments for the first time have a great opportunity to get involved and
grow in their own faith alongside their children. Many re-discover their
faith. Maybe there is a "hole in the market" for new catechetical
initiatives. Requests, innovative ideas and offers would be welcome!
