The Parish Pastoral Council

Meeting

The Pastoral Council is a group of parishioners and parish staff who meet together periodically to foster the further development of the Parish Community and bring the various groups together.

One of its first tasks in 2002 was to formulate the Parish Vision Statement, and to draw up a constitution.

Next the people of the parish were consulted on a variety of issues via a Parish Questionnaire. A summary of the results was prepared and distributed to the parish. These results form the basis of the programme for future action.

The PPC meets every two months to discuss parish matters with Fr Kevin. Although primarily a strategic group it does become involved in practical issues. Some functions are carried out by the group as a whole but, where more detailed examination is necessary, small working groups are set up. During the last year there were five such groups, i.e., Buildings, Parish Directory, Proclaim the Good News, Social and Youth. These groups co-opt other parishioners, with appropriate skills, to help them and the PPC is very indebted for their assistance.

In addition to the work of the Groups, the PPC was also responsible for:

The Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes and Nevers in April, when forty seven pilgrims accompanied Father Kevin on the journey

Co-ordinating the planning of the Open Air Mass at St. Vincent's School
