How to use this web site.
We would very much appreciate your feedback and contributions to this
site, which was set up in response to a clearly perceived need to improve
communication within the parish and so to build up the sense of community
that already exists.
A recent parish questionnaire showed that about 60% of parishioners have
access to the Internet, either at home or at work, so a web site seemed to
be a positive step in addressing the problem. But of course the remaining
40% must not be left out! There are also plans to improve the weekly
bulletin and we are looking for ideas from parishioners who have media and
publication skills. Contributing to the web site
This site is by no means complete, and there are many more groups and
organisations in the parish than are listed here. Also where a group is
listed here, the information has been taken from brochures in the church,
and may need updating. So if your group is listed here but you feel that the
information is incomplete or out of date, or if your group is not yet
included, please send any material by email to
. If email
isn't possible, printed material can be sent to "Web Site Editor" at the
presbytery. However, when submitting material for the web site there are one
or two points to bear in mind:
 | Copyright: We don't want to violate anybody's copyright, so if
the material you are submitting was not written by yourself we need
written permission from the original author or copyright owner before
their material can be included. |
 | Personal Information: The Data Protection Act means that we
cannot include details of people's names, addresses, or phone numbers
unless they have given consent, normally in writing. Where people shown in
pictures are identified in the accompanying text, again, permission is
needed. This is why, for example, the readers' rota just shows initials
instead of full names. |
 | Email addresses: Email addresses shown on web sites can be
detected by various automatic 'crawlers' which continually search web
sites. Any addresses found in this way run the risk of being the targets
of unsolicited 'junk' mail, or 'spam', some of which can be obscene or
offensive. For this reason some email addresses are shown in a different
form on this web site. For example, "'example' at 'shmi.info'"
means that the email address is actually "example@shmi.info". However if you would like an email address for a parish group
or organisation it is possible to generate an "@shmi.info" address in such
a way that all email sent to it will be automatically redirected to
another 'real' address which is not detectable on the web site. If there
were problems with unsolicited mail, the shmi.info address could be
modified or disabled without affecting the 'real' address to which it
points. If you would like to use this facility, please contact
. |
Over to you!
Please feel free to contribute. If you don't represent a parish group you
may still have some need or service to communicate with the rest of the
parish via the 'Sharing' page in the
News section. Also comments about the website would
be welcome. |
